Millions of Spaniards and countless people in other countries could answer yes to this question, however, maybe the answer in itself doesn't in fact do justice to what a Valdepeñas Wine really is. In addition, the great efforts made by everyone in the sector in recent years now mean that the quality of our wines is ever-increasingly better, but without losing sight of its roots.
Only wines produced according to the regulations established by the Regulatory Board and in cellars listed in the corresponding registers may apply the Registered Trade Name “Valdepeñas“.
|
CRIANZA
Part of the best Valdepeñas harvests is chosen to be put through a Crianza ageing process, which requires the blend to be kept in oak wood casks for at least six months. Crianza wines are always two-years old at least.
RESERVA AND GRAN RESERVA
The Reserva and Gran Reserva titles are determined, for the red wines, by a time spent in oak casks of 12 and 18 months, respectively, as well as a subsequent period of 24 and 42 months stored in bottles for the red wines, which are kept in cellars so that the reduction process ends with them attaining the bouquet, aroma and other characteristics of our wines. |

 |
Our white wines,
with an alcohol content of 11 to 12.5 degrees, are light on the palate, not very alcoholic, pale yellow and moderately acidic. They have a fine, clean yet discretely fruity bouquet. They should be drunk chilled and preferably in the same year they are made.
|
 |
The red wines,
with an alcohol content of 12 to 13.5 degrees, are more full-bodied wines. Macerating the red grapes makes their elaboration and taste more complex and richer. Their purplish-red colouring, becoming rich in brick red hues with the passing of time, gives them a highly suggestive appearance. A fruity aroma to the nose, soft on the palate with a lingering, drawn out aftertaste.
Valdepeñas reds evolve very well indeed when aged in casks and bottles, finally developing a very pleasant bouquet. They attain their full splendour from between four to ten years and should be drunk at between 16 to 17 degrees Cº, having first opened the bottle and left it to stand a while before tasting.
|
 |
The rosado wines,
with an alcohol content of between 11.5 to 13 degrees Cº, are quite similar to the whites, though their aroma is somewhat accentuated by the use of the Cencibel (Tempranillo) variety. Their alcohol content is about the same as the whites, and they should be drunk in the same year they are made.

All wines grouped under the Registered Trade Name will come with
rear labels,
issued and numbered by the Regulatory Board and will be on the bottles themselves, as per the established regulations.
The Registered Trade Name on the labels on bottled wines must, by obligation, be clearly placed. |
